This bottling, with its hideously ugly and over-ornate label and chintzy gold thread netting, does not appear on the Torre Oria web site. Maybe the US distributor is responsible for the ugly packaging. 100% Tempranillo, claimed 12% ABV.
When just opened, this wine smells unbelievably strongly of salty peanut butter. Unbelievably. Fortunately, it doesn’t really taste like peanut butter. It presents slightly subdued and muddled red fruits with ample freshening acidity. After a while in the glass, though, some of the peanut blows off, leaving a smoke and chalk nose and a clearer, more complex flavor in the glass. I’m going to get another bottle and see if I can figure out what’s up with this wine. Despite the awful packaging. ($16, Whole Foods, or $13 at BevMo)
