TN: J. L. Wolf 2005 Wachenheimer Belz Riesling Spätlese

11% ABV indicated. Starts soft, but there’s a good undercurrent of prickly acidity to this apple-y Riesling. Quite quaffable. Pleasant, not spectacular. ($7, K&L)

TN: Bert Simon 1996 Serrig Würzberg Riesling Spätlese

8.5% ABV indicated. At first it seemed a bit age-faded, with the fruit sort of oxidized and slightly sticky from the residual sugar. Just starting to get that oily aged-Riesling note. Nothing particularly impressive. It was a lot better after a couple days corked and a couple accidental freeze/thaw cycles, strangely enough, with increased zip [...]

TN: Dr. Konstantin Frank 2006 Dry Riesling (Finger Lakes)

Fresh, zippy, crisp, and tart, with a crystalline (is that adjective overused? I think so.) minerality. Lots of tart lime and green apple flavors, with an astringency that reminds me of apple (or grape!) skin. Very, very good dry Riesling. Moe Curly. (Northside, $18?)

TN: Stoneleigh 2004 Riesling (Marlborough)

12.5% ABV indicated. Extraordinarily sulfurous, showing match heads and kerosene nose, with similar flavors. Unpleasant. ($5 on sale, BevMo)

TN: Bonny Doon 2005 Pacific Rim Dry Riesling

12% ABV indicated. A blend of Riesling from eastern Washington and the Mosel. Clean and fresh citrus and green apple. Pleasant, easy to quaff, and not demanding of significant analysis. Larry.

TN: Trimbach 2004 Riesling

Powerful spine of acidity, with stern mineral and lean, intense yellow fruit. This is a wine that’s not messing around. Damn good. ($16)

TN: Weingut Jakoby-Mathy 2005 Kinheimer Rosenberg Riesling Kabinett

Gorgeous nose showing very intense and ripe petrol and lime. The wine has enough RS that despite the acid it feels fairly soft and ripe, but it’s not bombastic or over-intense. If anything, it’s a little loose-knit. Still goes down easy. ($15)
