TN: Sauvignon Republic 2009 Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc

Exceedingly pleasant SB for the price – contains the tart berry, cat pee, and rocks that I like in the variety without the grass or lurid tropical fruit that I don’t. ($6ish, Trader Joe’s)

TN: Paco & Lola 2008 Rías Baixas Albariño

Well, it doesn’t SMELL corked…

TN: Les Domaniers de Puits Mouret 2008 Côtes de Provence Rosé

Pale salmon in color, pale, wan fruit in flavor, with a nutty, oxidized core. This wine speaks quietly, more in a mumble than a sexy whisper. ($12ish, Costco)

TN: J. L. Wolf 2005 Wachenheimer Belz Riesling Spätlese

11% ABV indicated. Starts soft, but there’s a good undercurrent of prickly acidity to this apple-y Riesling. Quite quaffable. Pleasant, not spectacular. ($7, K&L)

TN: Perrier-Jouët Grand Brut Champagne

Soft, nutty, and easygoing. Pleasant but unremarkable.

TN: Selby 2001 Caberbet Franc

Tastes like the inside of an oak barrel. Yawn.

Grange Tiphaine 2007 “Grenouillères”

Pure Chenin demi-sec. Bracing, intense acidity and loads of fruit and a hint of RS to balance it. Turns ever so slightly heavy at the end, but this is delightful. The 2006 was classified as a Montlouis, I think. What happened in ’07? ($8, K&L)

TN: Grange Tiphaine 2007 Montlouis Blanc “Clef de Sol”

Pleasantly tart, with that leesy character that I so love in some Loire whites. The fruit is a bit subdued, and there’s a nice steely side to it all. No objections, particularly at the price. ($8, K&L)

TN: Durin 2006 Riviera Ligure di Ponente Pigato

13% ABV indicated. Liquid silken rocks with a splash of lemon. A somewhat larger splash would be better. ($cheap, K&L)

TN: Chermette – Domaine du Vissoux 2005 Beaujolais

12% ABV indicated. This is a little bit of happiness in a glass. It’s got fruit. It’s got rocks. It’s got juicy tartness. It’s absolutely adorable, and all of $13/bottle. Delicious, food-friendly red wine without attitude. Sadly, no longer available. ($13, K&L)
